Howdy's career started with West Ham where he
was from 1947-1955. During this time, speedway was taking off
in Holland and Howdy rode in the Dutch Leagues as well as at home.
1955 he was rode for the Durban Hornet's (South Africa) in the
winter months, but he was to received serious facial injuries
in a crash.
Howdy made the switch to Oxford in 1956 before moving on to Exeter
in 1961. He remained at Exeter side until he officially retired
at the end of the 1964 but he was coaxed back in 1965 by old team-mate
Len Silver to ride for Hackney. In 1966 he moved on to King's
