His father was a former Leicester rider and manager Vic White. Actually played for Leicestershire Schools at football. Also came runner-up in the British Schoolboys' Scramble Championship.

At the age of 15, he won the British Speedway Supporters club Junior Trophy at Kings Lynn in 1971. Rode for Peterborough in 1972, before riding for Leicester, Crewe, Poole and Birmingham. Joined Hackney in 1977.

Always reliable point scorer at Waterden Road and renowned as a trier.
